Talented writer wins sufferage writing competition

This year marks the 125th anniversary of the New Zealand Women’s Suffrage Movement. To celebrate, the federation of Universality Graduate Women ran a competition where students from across New Zealand Secondary schools were asked to write a letter to Kate Sheppard who began this Movement in 1893.

Students selected for New Zealand touch Football team

Ellie Minton (Year 11, pictured right) and Holly Williams (Year 9) have been selected for the New Zealand Under-16 Touch Football Team. Ellie was also named as co-captain for the team. They are currently with their team in Australia at a tournament where they beat the northern Territory representative team by 11-0.

Hockey team secures second place

The WGHS 1st XI hockey team competed at the Marie Fry Hockey Tournament during tournament week. They performed very well and came away with second place after being beaten by Orewa College in the final game.

Football team victorious

The Westlake Girls High School 1st XI football team won the Trevor Osten Memorial Tournament in Taupō during the Secondary Schools Tournament Week in early September. They played Sacred Heart (New Plymouth) in a closely fought final and beat them 1-0.
