2018 School Athletics Champions

A very successful whole-school Athletics Day was held at Onewa Domain in mid-February. The overall athletics champions from each of the three age grades were:

Senior Athletics Champion – Zoe Heelas (Year 13)
Intermediate Athletics Champion – Ava Pritchard (Year 11)
Junior Athletics Champion – Kate Rogers (Year 10)

Student wins Queensland title

Domi Menoita (Year 10) competed as part of a New Zealand team that travelled to Australia in late February to compete in the Queensland Junior Beach Volleyball Champs. She and her playing partner did extremely well, winning the competition and taking Gold.

Seven students in winning National Age Group Touch team

Seven Westlake students were members of the North Harbour Under-16 Touch team that won the NZ Under-16 Age Group National title in mid-February.  Torrential rain made playing conditions difficult, but the team performed to a very high standard to take the win. Student selected for Commonwealth Games

Stella Ebert (Year 11) has just been selected as part of the New Zealand Rhythmic Gymnastics Team to attend the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April. This is a fantastic achievement and Stella will be one of the youngest athletes in the New Zealand team attending these games.



Student in title-winning cricket team

Lune Strydom (Year 11) is a member of the Auckland Under-15 Representative Girls Cricket Team which won the New Zealand Under-15 Girls Cricket Championship competition held in Whanganui in mid-January 2018. Lune’s team was undefeated throughout the tournament.

Student wins New Zealand Tennis title

Elys Ventura (Year 12 2018) won the New Zealand Under-18 Tennis single title in late December 2017. Earlier in 2017, Elys also won the New Zealand Under-16 Singles Tennis title so she currently holds two New Zealand tennis titles.

Four winners at the Auckland College Sport Awards

The Auckland College Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards were held at the end of November. There are three finalists in every category selected from secondary schools across the Auckland area.
