How did you feel when you learned you would be in this role?
I was polishing my shoes and listening to music, preparing for the Special Awards Prizegiving the following day. I was very shocked to notice that my music had stopped and as I went to check my phone I saw the unfamiliar number on my screen. When Mrs Stanley told me I would be Head Prefect, I couldn’t believe it! I phoned my parents and my family overseas, and couldn’t hold back the tears. I felt immensely grateful, excited and overwhelmed in the best way possible. It is safe to say that I didn’t get back to polishing my shoes until a few long hours later!
Why do you think you were chosen (what special leadership qualities do you believe you have?)
I have always believed that my greatest strength is my compassion. I genuinely love and care about the people around me and the work I do. My compassion has allowed me to build meaningful connections with students across all year levels, and I believe that my ability to reach and relate to so many people contributed to why I was chosen as Head Prefect. I try to be an honest, approachable and humorous leader, and I see my position as one that will allow me to shine a light on others and help them feel seen and supported.
How do you intend to use your position ‘for good’ this year?
I believe one of the most important aspects of school life is our school spirit. I want students to realise that attending Westlake Girls, a prestigious school, is something they can be proud of, and to truly enjoy being part of our community. Alongside Charlotte, I hope to encourage greater involvement in school life for students across all year levels, celebrate both big and small achievements, and help create an environment where students feel confident, connected and excited to come to school each day.
What’s your main goal in this role? (Or, what would you like to change this year?)
I’ve promised myself I’m going to pack as much in this year as I can, and my role as Head Prefect is no different. Among speeches and events, I hope to be able to host a leadership conference with Anahera, and implement some new initiatives in the school—I’ve got some cool ideas (but haven’t discussed these with Senior Leadership yet, so I won’t share them here)! In particular though, I want to bolster the school spirit and make everyone feel welcome and a part of this amazing community. Please come and say hi to me if you see me around, I’d love to meet you!
In what ways do you think you and Charlotte will complement each other?
Charlotte and I have known each other since year 9! We have shared a unique bond, a friendship filled with laughter and great memories. Charlotte brings an incredible set of skills to the role and is a courageous and inspiring young woman who I truly admire. Our strong communication, mutual respect, and willingness to always give our best will allow us to support each other and work effectively as a team. I am very excited and honoured to have the opportunity to lead alongside Charlotte in 2026!
