There are three regional Secondary Schools competitions plus the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship in December that our top athletes enter each year. This year the Westlake Girls 4x100m Junior relay team won the New Zealand Secondary Schools title in an impressive display of athleticism which shows the growing depth of sprinting at Westlake Girls.
The school team to represent Westlake Girls Athletics team is selected from annual All School Athletics Day on Friday 27 February 2026, as well as from their independent club results. All students are required to attend the school Athletics Day, and registrations are not taken on this page but on “2026 Westlake Girls School Events.”
The WGHS team is managed by British Olympian Jo Mersh and travels to the Harbour and Auckland Secondary Schools Champs together but independently to the North Island and New Zealand Secondary School Championship in April and December, respectively.
The Westlake Girls Junior, Intermediate and Senior Athletics Champions are determined by their performances at the School Athletics Day only so please register for at least 3 Athletics Day events if you wish to be considered for these honours and the team.

The Westlake Girls Athletics Day is an All-School annual event held at the AUT Millennium Athletics Track, the home of North Harbour Athletics, where students participate in various events to help their House win the overall competition. The day has two categories of competition: the CHAMPIONSHIP events, for competitive athletes eager to be named Junior, Intermediate or Senior Athletics Champions or to be selected in the Westlake Girls Athletics Team AND the HOUSE competition, which focuses on enjoyment. Each time a student participates in an event, they receive 1 point for their House.
The CHAMPIONSHIP competition, held at the venue’s North end of the stadium, determines the school champions and regional qualifiers for the Harbour, Auckland and North Island Secondary Schools Championships and students are required to enter at least three events below to compete in this category. The HOUSE events, held at the South end of the venue, are designed for all non-competitive students and students DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER FOR EVENTS BELOW. Just arrive at the event on the day to help earn much needed points for their HOUSE – Akoranga, Hauraki, Onewa, Pupuke and Wairau.
NB: ALL CYGNET students are required to enter the CHAMPIONSHIP events.
NB: CHAMPIONSHIP competitors must register below for their events before Tuesday 17 February. All non-competitive students participating in HOUSE events only DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER their events on Clipboard but must complete the rest of the online form for transport, attendance, permission and code of conduct purposes.
With more than 2000 students attending this event, transport to the venue is a logistical challenge so please read the transport section below carefully and indicate how you will get to and from the event. Finally, Parents are not permitted to watch the event at the venue.

Athletics Day is a major undertaking so you must indicate if your daughter will require or will not require transfers from school to venue and return.
Students can make their way to and from the venue independently if they live closer to the venue than school, but they must be there by 9am. When they arrive, go directly to their HOUSE TENT and sign in with your teacher then find a spot to sit for the day.
The buses will leave and return to school from 8.30am and 2pm respectively and students are to meet for the buses at the Covered Courts at 8am. Buses leave promptly so please do not be late.
