Ki-O-Rahi

2026 KI O RAHI

Ki-O-Rahi is a traditional Maori game based on the Purakau (legend) of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. It is a mix of sports which allows students of all abilities to play.  A combination of handball, touch, tag and many other sports, the school comes together with Westlake Boys to create mixed teams for the Seniors and Junior one-day tournaments. In 2023, Westlake’s only team won the National Mixed Championship title and since then the sport has continued to grow in popularity to four teams.
