REGISTRATIONS CLOSE: MONDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2025
Westlake Girls is the current four-time New Zealand Secondary Schools Basketball Champion and bronze medallists at the 2024 World Schools Basketball Championship. The outstanding team led by Head Coach, Bronwen Davidson, has developed an admirable programme of athleticism, professionalism, and team culture, which attracts basketballers from around the North Shore.
The competitive pathway begins in Year 9 with all Juniors aspiring to secure a place in the Junior A team who compete in the Zone 1 Junior Premiership Tournament in September then students aim for a spot in the Open A team then Premier Team.
For those interested in a more social pace, the North Harbour Under 17 and Under 19 grades offer students the chance to relax with friends and train when they choose. All junior triallists are graded in Year 9 and 10.
2026 COMPETITIONS:
Harbour Basketball – Junior Competition for Year 9 and 10’s: 4pm – 6pm on a Wednesday or Thursdays in Term 2 and Term 3 (Starts 23rd April)
Under 17 and Under 19: 4pm – 8pm Thursday or Friday night starts 24 April)
Open Grade: 5pm – 8pm on Thursday nights (Starts 23 April)
Premier team plays in the Auckland League from 6pm – 8pm on Friday nights in a home and away format (Starts 1 May)
2026 TRIALS:
Juniors and Seniors Trial 1- Saturday 14th February – Juniors: 10.00am – 12.30pm and Seniors 1.00pm – 3.00pm
Juniors and Seniors Trial 2 + Junior Invitees to attend Senior Trial – Saturday 28th February – Juniors: 10.00am – 12.30pm and Seniors 1.00 – 3.00pm with a strong focus on the Junior Teams and the Senior 3-on-3 teams.
Junior Trial 3 – Wednesday 18 February – 7am – 9am at Westlake Girls in Gym 3
Trials will take place at Westlake Boys High Schools on Saturday 7th and on Saturday 14th February.

2026 3×3 BASKETBALL:
Westlake Girls enters four teams in the Basketball NZ 3 x 3 tournaments and these teams are selected from the basketball trials in February. The Senior competition is the regional qualifying event for the 3 x 3 National Secondary Schools Championship in April and the Junior 3×3 regional tournament is a standalone event in November.
STUDENT COACHES:
Senior students are also encouraged to experience the joy of coaching a junior team; however, we also welcome enthusiastic parents who are interested in coaching or managing their daughter’s team. The regular season for all teams begins in early May, culminating in early August for the local competition and then in early October for the Premier team.
