2026 CYCLING
Cycling at Westlake Girls includes both Road Cycling and Mountain Biking (MTB), with opportunities for students to participate at both competitive and social levels. Cycling offers the challenge of individual performance alongside strong team-based racing across a structured calendar of events. Students are encouraged to try both disciplines through ‘Give-it-a-Go’ sessions before committing to training and competition in Term 1.
Students typically enter the programme in Year 9 and progress through the age groups to Year 13, developing not only athletic performance but also key life skills such as self-discipline, resilience, organisation, confidence, and teamwork. Training requires commitment, particularly with early morning sessions during winter months. Our school coaching team provides guidance, technical development and support throughout the season.
ROAD CYCLING
In recent seasons, Road Cycling has involved three training sessions per week: two early morning road sessions and one afternoon wind-trainer session. Westlake Girls currently trains in partnership with Westlake Boys High School, enabling shared coaching and a stronger training environment.

FEES
Cycling costs are set in Term 1, dependent on student numbers. Fees include entry to the Auckland Team Time Trial Series and coaching support. Students will need to provide their own road bike, appropriate cycling equipment (gear list provided in Term 1), and a wind trainer.
Additional costs apply for optional events such as Points Races, North Island and National Championships.
MOUNTAIN BIKING (MTB)
The MTB programme at Westlake Girls has a strong pedigree of success, having won the Auckland Schools Cup and consistently producing National and North Island Champions across multiple categories. The team has enjoyed several dominant seasons and aims to continue this winning momentum in 2026.
Riders can compete in both Cross Country (XC) and Enduro disciplines. Training includes Wednesday morning strength and conditioning sessions in the school fitness centre and fortnightly team rides on Sunday mornings, designed to complement athletes’ other sporting commitments.
