Westlake Girls High School has an enrolment scheme that determines which students can enrol into the school. The two categories’ students may apply under are in zone and out of zone. If you wish to submit an application for your daughter to attend Westlake Girls High School, the Online Enrolment Form is used for both in zone and out of zone domestic enrolments.
After submitting your Online Enrolment Form application, you will receive an email from the school within seven days, during term time. Please note that during the school holidays, the office is closed and emails will not be sent until the start of next term.
Any enrolment enquires should be directed to [email protected]. You will receive a reply within 7 days.

2027 First Day TBC
Students who live in the Westlake Girls High School zone may enrol at the school as of right, provided:
To be eligible for entry to Westlake Girls High School students must live within the school zone, be living with a parent or New Zealand court appointed guardian and be able to provide the following documentation in the parent/guardian’s name.
All students to provide:
If you own your own home:
If you rent your home:
Please note that ‘living in the school zone’ means a student has her main residence in the school zone. We will not accept the temporary transference of guardianship to someone living in zone as evidence that a student is living in zone with her parent(s) or legal guardian.
Once the school is satisfied the enrolment criteria have been met, the student and parent/caregiver will be invited, by email, to book an enrolment interview with senior staff. Enrolment interviews are a requirement for every new student attending Westlake Girls High School. Domestic students must bring the original proof of identification for sighting at the time of the interview.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the enrolment process, please email [email protected]. You will receive a reply within seven days.
Only students who reside in-zone are eligible to enrol unless they are successful through an out of zone Ballot. The expectation is that students will remain living in zone for the duration of their enrolment at Westlake Girls High School.
Should a student’s residential address change during their enrolment period and the student intends to remain enrolled after moving out of zone, you will need to inform the school as soon as possible with the new address as this may affect your daughter’s enrolment status.
The Board of Trustees reserves the legal right to annul enrolments in specific cases.
Applications for the Ballot will open 22 June 2026 via the online enrolment form. Applications close on 2 September 2026, and the Ballot will be held on 9 September 2026. The Ballot is for enrolment to attend in 2027.
Students living outside the school zone can apply under using the Online Enrolment Form.
All students to provide:
Under the Ministry of Education guidelines priority is given to:
If there are more applicants than there are places available, we will use a Ballot to randomly select students in the priority group to fill the places. The Ballot is conducted under police supervision. We will have a number of out of zone applications we are able to accept, depending on the number of in zone enrolments. The students who are not accepted through the Ballot are put onto a randomised waitlist. This waitlist is live until the next year’s enrolments open.
Due to the large number of out of zone applications received and the limited number of places available, many applicants are unsuccessful in the Ballot. It is important that you also apply to your local school for enrolment.
It is important to note the only way to ensure acceptance into Westlake Girls High School is by living in zone.
We will retain information gathered for enrolment purposes until the commencement of the following year’s enrolment process.
The only information used to determine eligibility for Westlake Girls High School is proof that your daughter has the right to a state education and/or resides within our approved school zone. All other information collected (e.g. previous school reports, medical information) is used solely to help the school support our students. It will not affect your daughter’s acceptance into Westlake Girls High School.
If it’s after seven days from your initial email or application, please reach out again by emailing [email protected]. WGHS Office is only open during term time so please allow extra time for a reply if you email during the school holidays.
Unfortunately, school tours are not possible outside of Open Night. Our Open Night is on June 30 2026, at 4pm and 6pm (identical sessions).
No. Other than living in zone and priority guidelines, nothing will give preference to out of zone students. An Out of Zone Ballot is done under police supervision and is similar to a lottery.
No. A completed online application is not a confirmation of enrolment at the school. Following the submission of all the required documentation, we will contact you to invite the student and parent(s)/legal caregiver(s) to an enrolment interview with a member of senior management.
Yes. See links below to CYGNET/Music/STEAM.
It is the Board’s expectation that the student will remain in zone for the duration of her schooling at Westlake Girls High School.
If you are intending on moving out of the school zone, you will need to inform the school as soon as possible. Westlake Girls considers this on a case-by-case basis and may allow students to continue their schooling, at their own discretion. Others will be advised that a move out of zone will jeopardise their daughter’s continued enrolment and could lead to her enrolment being annulled.
The school will notify you via email of your ranking on the Ballot within two days after the Ballot has taken place. Places will be offered at any time between then and the commencement of the new academic year as the number of in zone enrolments are confirmed.
The waitlist is live after every Ballot and stays live until enrolments open the next year.
