Due to the weather conditions in Tauranga, the Tauranga City Council has moved the national broadcast of the remembrance service for the victims of the Christchurch mosques shootings indoors to the Trustpower Arena, where the NZSS 3×3 Basketball Championships are currently underway. While the service will be held in a different part of the Arena, police have advised that the venue needs to be free of all other users during the service.
School Sport NZ and BBNZ agree that it is not appropriate to have teams playing on site during this period of increased security risk and therefore the tournament will not start until two hours after the completion of the service – with first games on Friday starting at 1pm.
With schools committed to both travel and accommodation bookings, it is important that the tournament is completed on time.
This means that games scheduled for FRIDAY morning between 9am and 11.40am were rescheduled and played between 5.20pm and 8pm last night. The playoffs will take place this afternoon.
BBNZ and School Sport NZ apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but know that schools will understand the bigger picture in these extraordinary circumstances.

3.20pm Junior Open FINAL: WESTLAKE GIRLS Junior B vs Mt Maunganui (Team: Mackenzie, Rebecca, Jaelah and Holly)
3.40pm Senior Open FINAL: WESTLAKE GIRLS Senior B vs Tauranga (Team: Rosalie, Maia and Simone (Tabitha injured and recovering well))
4pm Junior Elite FINAL: WESTLAKE GIRLS Junior A vs Tai Wangana (Team: Holly, Sarah, Izzy and Amiya)
NB: Due to the change in schedule the teams will be home at approx. 8.30pm
