Squash Team wins Title

The Westlake Girls Premier Squash team competed at the Auckland Secondary Schools Squash Championships which were held in mid-June. The team performed extremely well, winning the Gold Medal for 1st Place.

Two Placings in the Maori Speech Competition

The annual Nga Manu Kōrero Regional Speech competition was held at the Ngati Whatua Marae (Orakei) in mid-June. Two students spoke extremely well to gain placings in various grades. Future Problem Solving International Award

The Westlake future Problem Solving team returned form a very successful trip to the World Schools’ Future Problem Solving Championships in the USA in mid-June. Teams from a wide range of countries participated and Abbie Clements (Year 11) performed particularly well in the competition, gaining 2nd Place in the Multi Affiliate Global Issues section.

Big Sing Regional success

Two Westlake Choirs gained awards at the Big Sing Regional Choir Festival held in mid-June. Choralation Choir was the winner of the Best Recital by a Mixed Choir. Cantare Choir gained three Runners-Up Awards for Most Outstanding Performance of a Single Work, Unaccompanied Performance and Best Recital by a Female Choir.

Chamber Music group places first

May Zeng (Year 13) and Rachel An (Year 11) are two members of the “Delamere Quintet” which placed First in the Auckland Secondary Schools Regional Chamber Music competition held in mid-June. Their group will now go on to the National Chamber Music Competition which will be held later this year.

Silver medal at the Australian Gymnastics Championships

Hannah Moore (Year 12) was part of the New Zealand Gymnastics team that competed in the Australian Gymnastics Championships in mid-June. Second place in Golf Championship

Naomi Yacyshen (Y11) won the trophy for 2nd overall for Nett Score at the Auckland Secondary Schools Inter-collegiate Golf Strokeplay Championships. This is a two-day event – Day One was held at Howick Golf Club in early June and Day Two took place at the Muriwai Golf Club in mid-June.

The Westlake Girls High School 1st XI Hockey team completed an excellent first half of the season by winning the North Harbour Secondary Schools Premier Grade Hockey title with a 4 – 2 win over St Mary’s College in early June.
