Top recognition for Surf Lifesaving

Zoe Crawford (Year 9) has been recognised by the Northern Lifesaving Association for her outstanding contribution and achievements over the last year  by being named as the Under-14 Northern Region Sportswoman of the Year at the annual Northern Region Surf Lifesaving Awards of Excellence prize-giving held in late July.

Student wins Silver medal at the Karate World Cup

Caitlin McPheat (Year 10) competed in the 3 KYU+ Division for 14 to 15-year-old girls at the GKR Karate World Cup, held in the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, England in late June. Caitlin performed very well, reaching the semi-final of the Kumite event and winning a Silver medal in the Kata event.

Student wins 2 Gold Judo Medals

Lucy Brunton (Year 10) attended the New Zealand Secondary Schools Judo Championships which were held in Tauranga in early July. Lucy competed in both the Under-48kg and Under-52kg classes and did extremely well, winning a Gold Medal for 1st Place in each Division.

 

Chamber Orchestra wins International Award

In the July term break, the combined Westlake Chamber Orchestra travelled to Australia to participate in competitions in Brisbane and the Gold Coast as part of the ASPIRE International Youth Music Festival.
