Top Overall Speaker at Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition

For only the second time in history, a student from WGHS has won Top Female Speaker, Best Impromptu and Top Overall Speaker at Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition.

Year 11 entrant Isabella Drummond participated in the ‘Korimako Trophy’ section for ‘Senior English’ where competitors give a prepared and an impromptu speech. Isabella (pictured at a rehearsal for this year’s Polyfest) spoke on “Let me be the rangatahi today; I’ll be the rangatira tomorrow” for her prepared speech, and “Learning te reo Māori via google” for her impromptu.

Isabella will now represent the Auckland region at the National Competition in Palmerston North on 23 September.
Congratulations Isabella! Outstanding effort.
