Year 13 student, Michaela Pocock, has been selected in the New Zealand Junior Black Fins Surf Lifesaving team to compete against Australia in the Battle of the Tasman on the Gold Coast from 24-27 August.
Earlier this year, Pocock represented Mairangi Bay at the National Championship and competed in a higher grade to win the New Zealand Under 19 Beach Sprint title.
New Zealand’s silver medal finish at the 2022 World Junior Champs in Italy, led to the creation of the Battle of the Tasman, an exciting new collaboration between New Zealand and Australia Surf Lifesaving which is intended to provide valuable experience to assist athlete development and potential selection for next year’s Surf Lifesaving World Championship.
