Adventure Racing

Millie Knox-Haines 2022 Adventure Racer of the Year

2023 Westlake Girls Adventure Racing

Adventure Racing is a multi-based sports event that contains a combination of trail, running, swimming, mountain biking, team building, water activities and mystery challenges which you will only find out about on the day of the race.  Adventure Racing is a mixed sport and Westlake Girls joins with the Boys school to create Westlake Adventure Racing teams.  Each year the teams compete in various events like the North Island Qualifier for the Seniors, Auckland Macpac Rogaine and for the juniors, the Auckland qualifier of the Get2Go Nationals which they succeeded in securing a spot at to qualify for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior Championship held in December.

Key Components

Races are done in teams of 2, 4 or 8 depending on the race. So, if you can work well in a team, communicate effectively, and encourage others, this might be the sport for you.

Problem solving
A race ranges in length from 3 hours to 5 days. It requires you to be able to think critically and problem solve well. You need to have quick reactions and be able to compete well even when you are physically tired.

Time Management
If you do not reach the finish in the set time, your team begins to lose points. Therefore, it is critical that you can keep to the time and get your team back to the finish before the time is up.
