Netball

Westlake Girls has a proud netball tradition and as the largest netball school on the North Shore, there are more than 40 teams competing in the Auckland and North Harbour Competitions during Terms 2 and 3 each year. The top team, Premier 1, compete against some of the best in the country in the Auckland League and the second team, represent Westlake proudly in the North Harbour Premier League.

The Year 9 students compete in a Year 9 competition on Monday nights at North Harbour Netball and the Year 9/1 also compete in the Saturday competition at Auckland Netball.  In 2022, Westlake 9/1 won the North Harbour championship in a close encounter with Rangitoto and finished third at Auckland Netball.  There were 15 Year 9 teams last year which cater to all levels of players at school. Participation and staying active is key so there is a place for everyone who is interested in playing.  The Netball programme begins in late February with trials for all teams (see schedule below).  Once students have registered for netball by completing the form on the TAB to the right, they will be notified about their relevant trial and what is expected on the day.

Netball Registrations are now closed.

Netball Trials Information

All trials are held at the Westlake Girls covered courts and are run by the Director of Sport, April Ieremia. All students are expected to attend trials unless they have a summer sports clash, if that is the case, it is imperative that you notify April Ieremia prior by emailing aieremia@westlakegirls.school.nz

Please ensure you are dressed in appropriate clothing and footwear and are fully warmed up 15 minutes prior to the start of each trial. There will be a call-back trial for Year 9s and Year 10s. This list will be posted on the noticeboard in the Sports Department. Once all trials are finalised and fees have been paid the team lists will then be posted on the noticeboard in the Sports Department at the end of Term 1.

At the Year 9 trial, students will be fitted for a netball dress which they can collect a week later once they have paid for it.  A receipt is essential.

Senior Trials are for students in Year 11-13 and they are held after the junior trials.  If seniors wish to create their own social teams they do not need to attend trials.  These teams are self-organised – they create their own training times, game day strategy and are managed by a parent.  Teams play in the same competition as other Senior players, so it is important to indicate the team’s level of ability when you apply.  When you register your team, please name a captain as the point of contact for all communication as well as listing your team.

If you would like to make your own team, please complete the social section of the registration form on the TAB to the right.
