All the Westlake Girls Year 10 Food Technology students competed in an in-school competition in preparation for the National Hospitality Championships “What’s your Flavour Burger Competition”. Students had to design and make their own unique gourmet burger. The winning team of Year 10 students from Westlake Girls, Amy Watson and Kasey Turrall-Poulter, then went to the Auckland Food Show to compete in the Auckland Secondary Schools Division of this competition. Amy and Kasey won the Silver Medal for their Mediterranean inspired gourmet burger, served with zucchini chips and hummus (which they also made). The majority of the students winning medals in the various food areas were experienced Year 11, 12 or 13 students so this is a fabulous result for two Year 10 students to gain 2nd place.
