In early September, the Westlake Girls Premier Basketball team qualified for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Premier Basketball Championships by finishing runners-up in the Zone 1 Secondary Schools Girls Premiership (Qualifier) Tournament. Westlake made it into the finals of that tournament by beating Mt. Albert Grammar School by 80 – 78 in the semi-finals. In the final Westlake narrowly lost to Auckland Girls Grammar School by 66 – 70.
